BITS and PIECES
Quiet weekend last weekend with no races but we wil be making up for it this week with four racing days - see below.
There were some problems with the previous weekend's AlexCaruth on-line entries which resulted in some batch errors in the results. I have had a couple of changes already and if you notice any others please let me know. It seems that the K2's jumped Helmut's start and received a self imposed penalty while they regrouped but although this is reflecxted in slower than usualtimes it dowes not affect any indexesas they all started together. The updatedresults are attached again.

MIDMAR DICE
For those in the Howick area on a Tuesday the Midmar Dice is up and running again at 5:30pm every Tuesday evening. The start is from the big Jetty inside the HMYC Yacht Club area again. The Yacht Club pub will be open and there will be Wors Rolls etc on sale as well. Hot showers are being negotiated. Please use the back entrance to the club that faces the main slipway. There is limited parking inside behind the cubhouse and plenty more on the grass outside the gate.

DUCT CLEAN UP DAY

SATURDAY 19 SEPTEMBER 2009
The Duzi-Umngeni Conservation Trust (DUCT) and A Rocha are hosting a clean up day in the towns and cities of the uMngeni and uMsunduzi Valley’s. Pietermaritzburg, Durban and Howick will all be hosting activities on Saturday the 19th of September 2009. The focus on this year’s campaign is at the community level. We are encouraging all clubs and organisations to get involved- it’s simple: Choose an area in your neighbourhood or one of importance to you that is littered, bring some friends together, grab some bags and gloves and clean up the litter. To make sure the rubbish is collected register your group by sending in a registration form available on WWW.DUCT.ORG.ZA or call DUCT on 033 3457571
There will also be several focus areas where bags, gloves and refreshments will be provided.

Kingfisher Canoe Club would like to extend a CHALLENGE to Natal Canoe Club (and all other canoe clubs) to the “Biggest Black Bag Pile” created in the clean up on the 19th September during DUCT’s Clean Up Day!
my first Duzi with Andrew in 1979, won the novice trophy which was the motivation to do 18 more Duzi’s after that. (Won 9 Gold medals)
Held the record for the Non Stop Duzi in both a double canoe with John Murray and a Single Canoe from 1985 to 1995.
Was awarded full Natal colours for Canoeing in 1999.
In these years I managed to get 1 bronze medal and 10 Silver Medals in the comrades.
In 1994 and 1995 I was chosen as one of 25 canoeists to compete in the Finlandia Clean Water Challenge, a 1500 km race from Chicago to New York, I finished 9th on both occasions.
During these years my Brother Alistair and I cycled on mountain bikes unaided across
Lesotho in winters 4 times in different areas, on one of the trips, raising R53,000.00 [1989] for a home for the mentally handicapped in Wartburg.
Now to the modern Olympics…….
Started Trail running with a race from Bushmansnek Border Post into Lesotho and back again, distance of 85 km, in 2006. Was very lucky and won it, subsequently won it in 2007 and 2008.
Have done many other big trail runs, not winning them, but mostly being in the top 3.
2008 ran the Thin Air Challenge through 154 kms of Lesotho; it’s actually a mountain bike race, the organizers allowing me to run as I lack the privilege of a mountain bike, won it overall.
February 2009 did the Wild Coast Ultra from Port St Johns to East London, a distance of 270kms over 6 days, ran from Port Edward to the start at Port St Johns as a warm up, a distance of 140kms over 2 days, was lucky here and won the race in a time of 39hrs 15min, breaking the record by 5hrs 20 min.
